Shungite is a fascinating, ancient mineral primarily found in the Karelia region of Russia. It's renowned for its unique carbon content, approximately 98% carbon, with the chemical formula often represented as C60, showcasing its fullerenes structure.  It is believed to have formed over two billion years ago from ancient organic materials, possibly evolving from microscopic organisms that existed in the Earth's primordial waters. Over time, these organic formations underwent high pressure and heat, transforming into the carbon-rich rock known as Shungite today. On the Mohs scale, Shungite has a hardness of 3.5 to 4, making it relatively soft and delicate.

To care for Shungite, it's recommended to clean it gently with a soft cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. An intriguing way to test the authenticity of your Shungite is the phone screen test; genuine Shungite should conduct electricity, so if you place a Shungite piece between a phone screen and your finger, it should allow for touchscreen interaction. This test provides a simple yet effective method to verify the mineral's authenticity and ensure you're enjoying the real benefits of this extraordinary stone.
