Gemstone of the Day - Labradorite

Writer: Vicky HuttonVicky Hutton

Labradorite is one of my favourite gemstones. It is said that the lost souls from the Aurora Borealis live within the stone and reflect the knowledge and motivation of the Welsh goddess of prophecy and magic Cerridwen. Labradorite also honours Arianrhod, the Welsh goddess of the moon and stars.

This gem is well known for its ability to display a magnificent array of colours upon reflecting the light. In fact, it's the only gemstone that can exhibit the whole spectrum of colours in this way. This iridescent effect is known as labradorescence, meaning an optical phenomenon.

Cleansing your Labradorite.

There are lots of ways to cleanse your gemstone. placing it in sunlight, moonlight, sound, smoke, or even your own breath. There are accounts of the gem being cleansed by placing it in soil for 24 to 48 hours to allow the Earth to clear and re-energise it.
